Worry all you like about Nintendo’s fiscal situation, in 2013 the company showed that it still knows how to churn out a bang up game or two. Fire Emblem Awakening, Super Mario 3D World, Pokemon X/Y, and A Link Between Worlds all cracked their way into our 20 best games of the year, and then they took it a step further and destroyed the competition once it was put to a vote.

But as soon as Nintendo games had no one to dominate except one another it seemed only natural that Zelda would come out on top. If “A Link Between Worlds” isn’t a perfect game, it’s pretty damn close. Nintendo has always been aware of the power of nostalgia but this year they’ve truly used to great effect. A lot of people scoffed at the idea of creating a sequel to one of the best games of all time, thinking it would be better to just leave the past be, but Nintendo has proven those people wrong and delivered a game that is just as good as the classic it’s based upon.

Thanks everyone for participating. This choice feels like a very solid one.
