Wayward Manor Would Like Some Of Your Money Please

Neil Gaiman launches his first video game with an elaborate pre-order system.

Beloved author Neil Gaiman, who you probably know either from his much beloved Sandman series or American Gods, announced his first foray into video games today with the title “Wayward Manor”.

When looking at the page one couldn’t be faulted for perhaps not understanding the full weight of what they’re seeing. The pre-order system is elaborate to say the least, and features many rewards that are very Kickstarter-ish in nature. Give enough money in your pre-order and you can get your name in the game, or have dinner with Gaiman himself for example.

Is the game being crowdfunded? Well it doesn’t appear so. There are no meters or bars to fill up, and there’s certainly no mention of what would happen if they didn’t receive enough pre-orders. Although the introductory video seems to be entirely concept art with no gameplay footage, they’ve also announced that the game is slated for a Fall 2013 release date, meaning this has likely been in development for a bit of time. For now the game is only mentioned as a PC title, but the language does seem to leave room for possible console releases as well.
