Most people remember Monolith Productions from their F.E.A.R. series, but I always had a soft spot for their much under-loved game, No One Lives Forever. Now six veterans of the studio have chosen to strike out on their own as an independent studio by the name of Blackpowder Games.
Their first title, headed for the PC, Android, and iOS platforms is entitled Betrayer. The game is a hyper-stylized eerie looking first person shooter that takes place within an abandoned New World colony in the year 1604.
The announcement trailer shows the player battling ghosts in and around the colony with old world weapons such as muskets and bows. There also appears to be at least one potentially friendly NPC running about somewhere in the world.
I find myself excited if for no reason other than it’s a refreshing setting for a first person shooter. Not enough games nowadays are letting people load muskets. However I do have to lament the fact that the people responsible for one of the funniest games I have ever played are still insisting on dabbling in the horror genre.
The game will be available to interested parties with early access via Steam on August 14th.
