Nintendo Direct Highlights From 8-7-2013

A lot of information, but not all of it new.

3DS

Nintendo Directs have certainly come a long way from their inception. The company has made some huge announcements through the service, and even funneled their primary E3 press conference through it.

Today’s Nintendo Direct gave us some small details, mostly regarding things we already knew about. Here’s an overview of some of the more interesting things discussed:

  • We got some new footage of Sonic: Lost World, the game looks to have taken a page from Mario Galaxy and has you defying gravity on suspended chunks of levels.
  • Pokemon Rumble U, the latest entry in the Rumble series that’s been running since 2009, will be coming to Wii U on August 29th. Now you can brawl it out with every type of Pokemon released as of Black/White 2.
  • Pokemon Rumble U will also be the first Wii U game to allow you to utilize the system’s NFC capabilities by collecting 18 different figurines that will be available exclusively at GameStop. Did you know the Wii U had NFC capabilities? You probably forgot.

  •  Professor Layton will be enjoying two upcoming titles. Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy AND the much anticipated localization of Professor Layton Vs. Phoenix Wright will release on the 3DS next year.

All in all this Nintendo Direct mostly just gave us little tidbits of footage or simply confirmed things that we were already pretty sure would happen, like Layton/Wright being Localized. There’s some more news regarding the upcoming Zelda games, Animal Crossing, and Mario and Luigi Dream Team, but nothing particularly earth shattering is going on. Presumably we may get a more interesting Nintendo Direct this Friday when they talk exclusively about The Wonderful 101.
