This morning Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct that outlines in great detail for the Wonderful 101, which is probably the second biggest Wii U game of 2013.
In the game you will be tasked with battling an alien invader force and finding all 100 heroes as you advance through the game. (The 101st hero is you.)
You can rescue endangered citizens by drawing a circle around them on the gamepad. Citizens can also be recruited temporarily to fight for your cause.
The player will also be able to utilize Unite Mode, where heroes bond together to form one giant weapon. Activated by drawing a specific symbol on the touch pad. A circle turns you into a giant hand, a straight lines turns you into a sword, etc. Different moves are appropriate in different situations, Unite Hand is good for single enemies while Unite Sword is better at clearing out groups. These moves can all be upgraded and become parts of combos which will tie into the game’s ranking system.
Morphing is not just limited to weapons, you can also morph to interact with the environment, becoming a bridge or ladder to navigate further in the world, etc.
The presentation ends with an extended trailer that feels like it pretty much spoils every story beat in the game. If you want to keep things a little surprising you may want to steer clear of the final five minutes.
