When you go to insert Grand Theft Auto V into your game system of choice a few hours from now take extra caution if you’re using the Xbox 360 version.
The game will arrive on two discs and Rockstar has laid out a specific method by which to install them. Essentially you will install Disc 1 and then play the game from Disc 2. Installing the second disc will lead to graphical pop-in as the Xbox will no longer be able to stream resources off a disc and HDD simultaneously.
The folks over at Digital Foundry grabbed some footage of the evil pop-in in action.
If you’re horrified at the thought of allowing a game to play off a lowly DVD drive then there is another option. Users are reporting that performance is fixed if you install Disc 2 onto a USB disc instead of to the Xbox’s internal HDD.
It’s certainly a convoluted process just to play your game but really it’s impressive Rockstar was able to get this thing onto 8 year old hardware to begin with.
