This year at IndieCade in Los Angeles, Nintendo seems to want to be pushing independent support for the Wii U and 3DS.
Nintendo will be hosting a dozen or so games in their booth, and here’s the breakdown of all of them:
Wii U
- 1,001 Spikes
- Armillo
- Knytt Underground
- Pier Solar and the Great Architects
- Q.U.B.E.
- Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails
- Shovel Knight
- Tengami
- Teslagrad
- Unepic
- Wooden Sen’SeY
3DS
- Grinsia
- Jett Rocket II: The Wrath of Taikai
- Retro City Rampage
- Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse
- Siesta Fiesta
- Treasurenauts
It’s worth noting that this list seems to almost entirely be well-established indie games that are already for sale or that everyone already knows about. This isn’t entirely surprising as the one thing the Big Three still don’t understand is that the cost of entry is the #1 deterrent preventing new developers from being discovered on consoles.
The developers of Armillo, Pier Solar, and Shovel Knight will physically be on-hand at IndieCade to answer questions players might have as they game at the booth.
Afterwards, Nintendo will be holding a sort of “how-to” session about how to self-publish your game on the Nintendo eShop for Wii U and 3DS availability. Again, Nintendo seems to think people just don’t get how the process works when in reality the cost of a dev kit is what stops most developers in their tracks, with each system’s dev kit costing several thousand dollars.
