Pokemon X/Y Released

Nintendo throws a party and you get to play Pokemon.

3DS

Last night Nintendo celebrated the release of Pokemon X/Y for the 3DS alongside a large collection of fans in New York’s Rockefeller Plaza. Hundreds of fans filled the plaza dressed as their favorite Pokemon while they waited to get their hands on the latest generation of the game.

Also available today was the budget friendly Nintendo 2DS which you can read more about here.

Nintendo’s UK division has also released this interesting live action trailer for the game’s launch. I’m fairly certain this is the first time we’ve seen CGI Pokemon alongside real actors, so if you’ve always wondered what that would be like click on the video below.

If you’re picking yourself up a copy of the game remember to make sure your 3DS is connected to wi-fi as you play so that you can get your hands on “Torchic” the fire starter from the Ruby/Sapphire era. This isn’t just any normal Torchic though, this one will be holding a Mega Stone which will allow you to evolve the Pokemon into one of the newly featured Mega Evolutions in the game.

To unlock the special Torchic all you have to do is play the game up until you get your Pokedex. Once you receive it you can quit the game and select “Mystery Gift” from the main menu. Torchic should be available as a mystery gift until January but you may as well grab yours now.

Add in one of the original Red/Blue starters which you’ll receive early on in the game and you should be sitting pretty.
