TellTale Mega Update

Time for your paddlin'.

News

Although TellTale made an impact when they rescued beloved LucasArts intellectual properties like Sam & Max and Monkey Island from the brink, their real breakthrough was with last year’s The Walking Dead. Now for 2014 TellTale is proving to be one of the busiest studios on the map. If you had the stomach for it you may have already seen some of these announcements last night on the VGX Awards; aka the show so good Spike couldn’t be bothered to air it on television this year.

Not long ago rumors began circulating that TellTale was working on a new game based on HBO’s runaway hit Game Of Thrones. Explaining Game Of Thrones here might be unnecessary but if you’re familiar with it you’ll know that TellTale’s storytelling chops should be put to good use when the game launches sometime next year.

A more curious game announcement has also come from TellTale in the form of Tales From The Borderlands which is of course based on Gearbox’s most successful franchise. While Game Of Thrones is laced with intrigue and clever plotting Borderlands is more about memes and fart jokes so this is an interesting dichotomy that we have here. Gearbox has confirmed that they will be working with the TellTale team throughout development.

Both games will be arriving some time next year despite presently being in fairly early development stages, and both are confirmed to be episodic like other TellTale franchises.

But what about all those existing franchises you know and love?

The Walking Dead will be making its return this month, specifically on December 16th. This will begin the second season in which as we reported previously you will be controlling Clementine from season one. TellTale hasn’t provided much more information on the game, most recently just giving us this screenshot of a reunion with Omid from the first season, likely right before he’s disemboweled by a herd of zombies right in front of a small girl’s very eyes, because that’s how we do things on The Walking Dead.

Maybe The Wolf Among Us is more your style. In a blog post from Friday TellTale gave some more information about the second episode of their game based on the “FABLES” comic book series. This upcoming episode will feature Jack (without his titular beanstalk) who is himself a major character in the FABLES universe, so much so that he’s even held his own spin-off comic book series.

There’s currently no word yet on when this next chapter will be released but TellTale does promise that they will have more scheduling information some time after the holidays.

TellTale has been on fire as of late, with The Walking Dead’s first season picking up numerous GOTY awards last year and The Wolf Among Us was met with very positive impressions, but at the same time they have a lot of projects up in the air right now. It will be interesting to see if the developer can stick the landing on all of them.
