A trailer for a new Ace Attorney game was released tentatively titled The Great Ace Attorney and as series creator Shu Takumi warned, it is going to be very different from the Ace Attorney games we usually enjoy.
Siliconera translated a few of the deets. The title will star Ryunoske Naruhodo, an ancestor of Ryuichi Naruhodo (or as we know him better in the west; Phoenix Wright). There’s also a mysterious unnamed girl in the trailer who I bet, and this is pure conjecture on my part, is related to the Fey family line in the Ace Attorney games.
This won’t be the first time an Ace Attorney game stars a different protagonist or gives us a different setting. We did get one entry in the shoes of Apollo Justice, Phoenix’s protege, and Phoenix’s rival Miles Edgeworth as he busted down crime rings with his skizills as a prosecutor.
Ace Attorney has also been subject to some bizarre translation practices, with the games wanting you to believe they take place in America instead of Japan (kind of made more ridiculous by the fact the two countries have entirely different legal systems.) This title takes place in Meiji era, Japan, which makes the setting more important than usual so if we see this title out in the west (no plans for that announced yet) it will be interesting to see how this is handled.
Still it’s always exciting to hear more Ace Attorney news, as the series is often touch and go with Capcom always on the fence as to whether they want to release a new title. Shintaro Kojima, known for his work on Monster Hunter, will also be joining Takumi in the creation of this title. The latest game in the Ace Attorney series, and first ever crossover for the franchise, Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney should be out in the states later this year.
