In this day and age of intentionally snarky simulators such as Goat Simulator and Bear Simulator, or completely honest simulators that are appreciated in the “ironic” sense, it’s a little refreshing to see an animal survival game come in that leaves the cynicism at home and brings forth an honest effort. Shelter 2 will see you take on the role of a lynx keeping her cubs fed and safe from the wilds beyond.
In Might and Delight’s Shelter you played a badger trying her best to bring her cubs up in the rough wilderness. There wasn’t a lot to do with the game, since it was wholly linear, and your goal was simply to feed the badger cubs, hide them from predators and keep them in an orderly straight line. The game certainly had a charm about, and I’d be disappointed each time I lost one of the little jerk cubs.
Shelter 2 is looking to greatly expand upon the ideas in Shelter, and their art alone shows this off. The early trailer gives us a brief but beautiful glimpse into the game, and the concept art on Might and Delight’s page also isn’t bad to look at. All of it keeps Shelter’s unique look in mind, but with a higher contrast in the assets and more unique environments. Might and Delight promises several gameplay improvements over their last title:
Shelter 2 is our upcoming title. The game follows the life cycle of a mother lynx, starting as a pregnant animal preparing her den for the coming litter, giving birth, and continuing in to a journey of parenthood where nurturing her cubs is paramount for survival. Shelter 2 includes more elaborate gameplay features than its predecessor, such as stamina, different types of movements, jumps and a variety of prey to kill. Besides hunting there are several maternal features such as calling the cubs closer, making sure they drink water from rivers and lifting and carrying your cubs from harm’s way.
Shelter 2 seems slated for a release later this year, Enemy Slime will keep you updated as to the goings ons with the project. In the meantime feel free to visit Might and Delight’s website and watch the trailer embedded below.
