Weekly Famitsu has gotten the lowdown on Hyrule Warriors, releasing screenshots of the Zelda/Dynasty Warriors crossover yesterday and details translated for us on NeoGAF.
The title is being developed by Omega Force ( ωForce) unsurprising since they are responsible for most of the Dynasty Warriors series and Team NINJA which may explain a certain villain’s aestehtic. The development of the game will receive supervision from director Eiji Aonuma who has been at the helm of a good number of Zelda titles since Ocarina of Time back in 1998.
Link is a soldier in training who has to, surprise surprise, rescue Princess Zelda from an evil witch named Shia. Impa, cast as a royal guard this game will also be playable. Aonuma also expresses he was “surprised” at how many playable characters are in the title, so we can likely expect more than just Impa and Link. The game comes with a story mode and a 2 player co-op, where one player will control the character on the television screen and the other control theirs from the Wii U’s GamePad. It seems characters will get different equip-able weapons that change their play style, weapon upgrades, and a stat growth menu. Just as interesting is the fact the game is looking to combine Zelda’s lock on “Z Targeting” system with Warriors series combat, allowing players to focus on enemy weak points.
Development on the game is said to be 70% complete, playable at E3, and aiming for an August 14th release date in Japan. While we sit and wait for further news on a western release enjoy the screens below:
