Starting on June, PlayStation Plus users will be entitled to two free games per month instead of one. This increase on the amount of free games is in celebration of PlayStation Plus’ fourth year anniversary. Users will now have access to two free PS4 games from the instant game collection, two free PS3 games, and two free Vita games. The service was originally launched as an answer to Microsoft’s Xbox Live Gold service, offering the free games as a way of sweetening the pot for users drawn to the PlayStation on the promise of free PSN, and weary of the new paid service. This move is not only timed with the anniversary of PlayStation Plus, but also the announcement of a new Xbox One devoid of the Kinect, and priced to compete with the PS4. Providing more value of PlayStation owners across the whole Sony ecosystem is a good way to keep consumers while avoiding a price cut.
