Watch Dogs is causing a stir all across the internet with its release, from complaints that the game doesn’t live up to expectations, to a buggy PC port that’s unplayable for many, it seems only natural that the cherry on top would involve a bomb squad.
Australia based news website Ninemsn received a copy of the game from Ubisoft which arrived inside a metal safe that started to beep when the staff attempted to open it.
Reportedly after phoning some other newsrooms to see if they had received similar bomb-like packages and finding that nobody had anything of the sort the folks at Ninemsn decided it was time to involve the police.
The floor where the safe was delivered was evacuated while police scanned the box and then took it down into the buildings basement to open it.
Ninemsn publisher Hal Crawford summed up the situation nicely:
The PR company no doubt got carried away with their creativity and ended up sending us something the bomb squad had to open up.
Ubisoft has also released a statement promising to give more warning when they mail bomb-like items to the press in the future. To make matters worse Ninemsn doesn’t even cover video games meaning that Ubisoft skipped over our request to have a suspicious box sent to usĀ in favor of a site that won’t even be equipped to play the title. Thanks guys, that stings.
