We knew Grand Theft Auto 5 was going to be landing on next gen platforms and PC for awhile now, but today Rockstar gave us more details as to what we can expect from the game when we load it into our Playstations 4s, Xbox One’s and computers.
The promised technical enhancements includes denser traffic and enhanced environmental effects such as better weather, improved foliage and additional wild life. Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to be mauled by more than just cougars on our marches into Mt. Chiliad. Rockstar is also advertising new weapons, vehicles, activities and more songs included on their radio stations.
To try and draw players already snug and comfy on the PS3 and Xbox 360 Rockstar is saying folks who already own the game and buy it for next gen can collect “classic” vehicles seen in older Grand Theft Auto games. You can brush up on your firearm skills with new shooting range challenges, or if you want to approach GTA with a gentler, kinder touch get out in the world and do some wildlife photography. Before being mauled by a cougar.
So perhaps the most interesting and most unclear are the changes to online. Apparently players on the PS4 and Xbox One can find themselves with lobbies where up to 30 players can participate in the bedlam and chaos, nearly double the player cap from the current 16 people maximum. If you’re jumping to the next gen you don’t have to abandon your current character to live out a lonely, abandoned life in their plus sized apartments with nothing but a TV and a glass of red wine. They can be imported to your PS4 and Xbox One.
What’s a little less clear is if you choose to make the jump, would you lose the ability to play with your current friends online if they haven’t joined you? It may also be a one way, one time only character transfer from the older versions of the game to the new ones. So while bigger lobbies and returning GTA vehicles is certainly enticing, the real question is if it will be worthwhile.
The PS4 and Xbox One versions will be released on November 18th, with the PC version slated for a January 27th release, so PC gamers will have to wait just a little bit longer until they can be mauled by cougars.
Oh, still no word on heists.
