This morning Nintendo sent out a press release announcing their new partnership with Universal Parks & Resorts. This partnership includes plans to, as they phrase it:
Bring the world of Nintendo to life at Universal theme parks – creating spectacular, dedicated experiences based on Nintendo’s wildly popular games, characters and worlds.
And uh, that’s pretty much what we know, in fact from the sound of it that might be all the two companies know at this point as well. What exactly is a “spectacular, dedicated experience”? Will we get a roller coaster? An entire segment of a park a la Universal’s Harry Potter and Marvel themed locations? You can’t tell me a Mushroom Kingdom themed park doesn’t sound at least a little awesome.
Where will the attractions be? Will they jam it into the already crowded Orlando location, try to use it to revitalize the ghost town that is Universal Studios California, or play it safe and keep it in Japan where you can’t enjoy it?
Nobody knows!
This actually isn’t Universal’s first time making video game related experiences. Universal Cool in Kyoto features a number of geeky attractions including Monster Hunter, Biohazard (Resident Evil), and Evangelion to name a few. Hopefully that means Nintendo is in good hands as the time of the great licensing begins.
