Grand Theft Auto V Online “Launches”

What do we think of GTA V Online? We'll tell you once we can connect to it.

Well you can’t say they didn’t warn you. Grand Theft Auto V Online is off to a rocky start today as it shambles out of the gates. Rockstar issued a statement some time ago emphasizing the need for players to understand that the first few weeks would consist of a lot of changes and fine tuning. The scope escapes the post now as for the majority of users the game doesn’t seem to connect or work at all.

Most users are reporting that locally based media like the character creator will load up after suffering through a slight delay. But generally as soon as you get ready to have some fun the game will boot you out. Reports are varied and there does seem to be a very small group of people for whom the game is running beautifully, but if you’re in the majority or just like us here you’re probably not having a lot of luck getting connected to anything.

This doesn’t entirely come out of left field, the game has broken almost every sales record imaginable so it’s understandable that even the best server capacity planning won’t be enough to house the hordes of people frothing at the mouth to drive over the corpses of their dearest friends. Still the number of users able to actually access the game seems staggeringly low. Rockstar is no stranger to poor online launches (see GTA IV, Max Payne 3, and Red Dead Redemption) but this is definitely the least functional one they’ve delivered so far.

If you’re unable to get in and are having a hard time figuring out what else to do with your life you can check this page to view the game’s status.

We’ll post a full review of the game’s online component once we’re able to connect and play it successfully.
