I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve only been following Metal Gear Solid V loosely or if it’s because Konami just hasn’t presented it properly but up until today I still wasn’t entirely clear whether or not Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes were the same game.
And if they were separate games which one was Metal Gear Solid V? It certainly looked like Phantom Pain would be taking that title but then what was Ground Zeroes?
Well today Konami has cleared the air by letting us know that they are both Metal Gear Solid V! Here’s a snippet from their press release:
METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES will launch Spring 2014 as a prologue to the events leading into METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN. This prologue brings all of the hallmarks of the renowned franchise in a concentrated story mode that guides players into the new gameplay mechanics against the backdrop of the expansive METAL GEAR SOLID universe.
Ground Zeroes will be arriving in Spring 2014 while Phantom Pain still does not have a release window listed. The games will be available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
If you stick with current gen systems you can get a retail copy of Ground Zeroes for $29.99 or a downloaded copy for $19.99. If you are lucky enough to have a next gen console by the time of release Ground Zeroes will only be available for download and it will be priced at $29.99.
No word yet on whether or not Phantom Pain will be priced the same but you may now begin speculating just how much you’ll be paying for MGS V.
