Strider Gets A Release Date

Strider's return is now just around the corner.

News

It’s been 15 years since Strider Hiryu had his last adventure and Double Helix’s “reboot-ish” release doesn’t look like it’s missed a beat in regards to what made the series so much fun.

If you’re like me and spent a good portion of your youth dumping quarters into a Strider machine then you’ll be happy to hear that Capcom has released a slew of new information about the game today.

Announcements from the day include two new modes available aside from the already announced Story Mode: We have Beacon Run which is essentially a speed-run mode, and Survival Mode which will allow players to sharpen their combat skills against increasingly difficult waves of enemies. Each of these modes promises its own set of online leaderboards and score tracking  so that you can continue to admire your carnage and agility well after the fact.

Some newly released screenshots (like the one above) also show off some new duds for Strider to unlock as you play through the game’s story mode.

Playstation owners will be graced with the game a day early on February 18th while Xbox and PC fans will see their downloads arrive the following day. The game will be hitting both previous and current gen consoles (the PC release will be through Steam) so if you’ve been looking for an excuse to fire up that Xbox One you’re using as a Netflix machine this could be it. Strider will be priced at $14.99 across all the systems.
