After months of announcing nothing but player created content updates, the elimination of cash exploits, and “crew highlights”, Rockstar has finally (kind of) given an answer to the burning question of when exactly you’re going to get to pull off a heist in GTA Online. The time frame given was Spring, which, for those of you who didn’t pay attention in Kindergarten, can mean any time from tomorrow to June.
In a post via Rockstar’s Newswire, the company also announced the incoming ‘high life update’, which will bring new clothing items, high-end vehicles, a Mental State stat to see how other players in the server behave, and most interesting of all, the ability to finally own two properties simultaneously. Why two and not “several” or “all the ones that are available”? Who knows, but it is a 100% increase in the number of properties the players currently can own.
The announcement also includes a capture/create mode, that will allow the community to create more free content for Rockstar to pass off as updates in the future. There are also a number of gameplay tweaks, including removing a previous “fix” which made it impossible to do stunts in motorcycles, increasing payouts for players who complete missions with less than 4 people, the addition of a “no contact” mode for racing, and new options for Lester.
While it is encouraging that Rockstar is finally give a time frame for the heists, however wide it is, it remains to be seen if it will manage to lure back the many players that surely left during the troubled early months of the game. Or, whether it will recapture the players who have gotten tired of waiting for a core feature that was promised at launch six months ago.
