We reported in July that a little Silicon Valley startup called Google was looking mighty likely to purchase streaming website Twitch. Well it turns out we were wrong, dead wrong, just like when Brad Womack chose Emily Maynard to be his eternal soul partner.
Today it’s been announced that Twitch has brushed aside those tiny nobodies at Google in favor of tech behemoth Amazon. Twitch’s CEO Emmett Shear explained in a blog post why the company decided that Amazon would be the right fit for them and also detailed just what exactly would be changing at the Twitch offices aside from everyone now lighting cigars with 100 dollar bills instead of 20s.
We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster. We’re keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon’s support we’ll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch.
Much like Google, Amazon has access to a very robust and powerful set of technological resources which will surely help Twitch in growing out their infrastructure and improving the quality of their product.
