Activision Announces Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Danger of the Ooze - Enemy Slime

3DS

Activision has announced a new 2D entry into the long list of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Danger of the Ooze is currently in development by WayForward, better known for games like Double Dragon Neon, and Adventure Time Explore the Dungeon Because I Don’t Know!

When you think 2D TMNT video game, you probably think of a side scroller beat ’em up along the lines of Turtles in Time, but this is incorrect. Rather the game is built around “vast, interconnected, non-linear game world, which rewards exploration and creative thinking”. So a Metroidvania, essentially, but also reminiscent of the 1989 NES game. This is a game I remember fondly, the way one remembers things one loved as a child even though they aren’t very good.

Just call him Donatello Belmont.

Just call him Donatello Belmont.

Danger of the Ooze will be based on the Nickelodeon TV show, which in my opinion is excellent, and not the latest movie incarnation. I wish I could say WayFoward indicates this might be a good game, but their track record shows a lot of inconsistency in their quality, as do the TMNT games frankly.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Danger of the Ooze is coming to the 3DS, PS3, and Xbox 360 later this year.
