If there was ever a game to benefit from having a demo it’s gotta be Titan Souls. What makes me say that? Well for starters the game is really damn hard. I spent some time with it at PAX Prime and barely scraped by the boss that appeared the easiest. I would say most players will either be instantly charmed or instantly annoyed by the game’s difficulty, and a demo is just the way to find out which camp you fall into.
The premise is simple enough. The game discards traditional enemies in favor of putting you through a number of challenging boss battles. Each boss towers over you and can be defeated with the simple bow and arrow you carry through the game. That’s ‘arrow’ singular by the way. After charging up and shooting your arrow you’ll have to hold the same button to telepathically retrieve it. Sometimes you’ll get in a decent hit while pulling the arrow back, but often times you’ll get smashed to pieces as well. I guess that’s just how it goes.
Titan Souls was originally conceived in a game jam 2 years ago. In fact you can still play the original prototype on itch.io. The game has of course gone through a lot of changes since Devolver picked it up, and the company has released a great video today that outlines just how much as changed over the course of the last two years.
Titan Souls will be ready to frustrate you further on April 14th.
