Whether you can stomach Call of Duty or not is almost irrelevant at this point. Ghosts will likely be the best selling game of the year, just like Black Ops II was for 2012 and so on for the past four years.
Today Activision held an event to show off the multiplayer aspect in Ghosts. Here’s a breakdown of the interesting moments:
First Activision CEO, Eric Hirshberg, appears on stage and takes a moment to ponder just why his game is so damn good. He lists several reasons that sound like they were pulled from a WebMD article featuring heart attack symptoms before we finally land on “fun” and can move onto the actual gameplay trailer.
The trailer itself is adorned with an original Eminem track and after it concludes we are treated to Slim Shady himself telling us just how excited he is to see Ghosts released.
From here we’re given a somewhat exhaustive list of new features including:
- Full character customization with over 20,000 possible permutations. We’re told that how you dress your character will have more than just a cosmetic effect, but that point doesn’t seem to be elaborated upon much further.
- You will have 10 character slots that you can customize. These ten characters will essentially replace load outs from previous games.
- Maps now feature dynamic events that can be triggered during the game. These events tend to cause the landscape to change, adding cover where there was none before etc.
- 7 new Game Modes, including “Cranked” a mode where getting a kill will speed up your character, causing him to move and reload at a faster rate. After your first kill a timer appears on screen, if you don’t get another kill before the timer hits zero you will explode. This of course creates a much faster, up close and personal, deathmatch experience.
- 30 new weapons.
- 20 new Killstreaks.
- You can now be a lady soldier.
- A new mode called “Squads” which will allow you to bring your custom characters into battle, either with you playing or in the form of AI teammates. Most of the modes in squads take place either solo or co-op against offline AI that Mark Rubin promises behaves just like real players online, presumably without all the cruelty being piped in via voice chat.
There’s a whole lot more features to behold, you can watch the archived feed via the link below.
