Xbox One Updates Dated

The new console's first set of updates have some pretty lofty goals.

News

At this point Xbox One owners have probably breezed through all of the games that they found interesting in the launch line up and have retired the system to a dark corner of their entertainment center while they wait for something new to feed it. Well good news is on the way, on February 11th you’re going to be able to dust off the old beauty and receive your first system update.

Microsoft today announced details of the system’s first two major patches. Most of the features hitting on the 11th sound like back-end tweaks and fixes but highlights include the following:

  • The ability to see and manage your storage space.
  • The battery power indicator makes a stunning return to the home screen.
  • And at last you will be able to use your USB keyboard with the system.

The second update is scheduled to land on March 4th and its feature list is a bit more vague but is firmly centered around improving the One’s multiplayer experience. Since the Xbox One’s initial launch a lot of people expressed dismay at the evolution (or lack thereof) of the party system. Most would agree that in its current state party management on the Xbox One is actually inferior to how things worked on the 360. Microsoft has acknowledged the issues and with their biggest exclusive this year (Titanfall) lacking a single player campaign it makes sense that they would want to push their overhaul out before its release.

Available on March 11, “Titanfall” is a team-based online multiplayer game that showcases the power of Xbox Live, and we will be shipping a new party and multiplayer system that will help make “Titanfall” the must-have game for this generation.

Exciting stuff, although that release window only leaves a 7 day gap between a complete multiplayer overhaul and the release of the game. Here’s to hoping Microsoft sticks the landing on their first try.
