Destiny DLC Information Leaks Thanks To Bug

Bungie noticed that you noticed some DLC.

News

Despite its initially positive critical reception Destiny fell out of public favor sort of quickly. I haven’t turned in my review of the game yet because I’m a bad person but I can echo similar sentiments that the game feels somewhat hollow and devoid of the lifeforce that made games like Halo so special.

We live in an age now where DLC is so intrinsic to games that it’s oftentimes planned out and even developed well ahead of the core title’s release. Oftentimes this content even going so far as to be shipped on the game disc. The idea of a company deliberately holding back content to sell to you later isn’t uncommon, and now a lot of players who are unhappy with their Destiny experience have begun to suspect that Bungie/Activision has just such a trick up their sleeve.

If you want to read a giant (and pretty convincing) reddit conspiracy thread on the subject there’s one for you here.

And nothing fuels speculation like a bug that reveals the names of most of the planned upcoming content.

You can watch a video of said bug here:

This glut of new information includes the names of story missions, raids, and more. The expansions are currently being referred to as The Dark Below and House of Wolves.

Of course there’s no guarantee that any information that was leaked will be final. Bungie obviously caught wind of the leak, and also wanted to re-iterate that the content was still under development and isn’t just waiting on disc to be unlocked like some would like to believe.

From their community blog:

They (the content) have activity names (which may or may not change) and we have a really good idea what they’re going to contain. They even have placeholder nodes in the Director, as you’ve already discovered.

But neither of the Expansion Packs we’ve announced are finished.

People at Bungie are hard at work to complete content for our first post launch pack, “The Dark Below,” as I type these words. It will be finished soon. It releases in December. Soon, we’ll detail it out for you so you can see exactly what we’ve been working on.

You can read the whole post here if you’re so inclined.

So there you have it, if you’ve exhausted all your Destiny fun now you at least have some idea what content is coming down the pipes. Whether or not it’s content that was held back from the game is up for debate and probably won’t ever be provable, but hey we can all have fun theorizing on corporate evil now and again can’t we?
