The Arkham Knight: Batmobile Edition has been cancelled girls and boys, with less than a week before the game’s release. Probably a wise move, as the last thing comic fans want is more comics related paraphernalia.
So why the cancellation? WB released this in a statement to websites and retailers:
“We regret to inform you that we are not able to release the Batmobile Collector’s Edition of Batman: Arkham Knight due to unforeseen circumstances that greatly compromised the quality of this extremely limited run of product. We are deeply apologetic for this unfortunate outcome.”
Warner Brothers goes on to make sure you know it’s not their fault, saying they’re pretty disappointed too. The big centerpiece of this edition of the game was a ‘transforming’ Batmobile being produced by a company named TriForce, who has handled other Arkham merchandise in the past. While this is conjecture, it’s likely TriForce put out a bombastic prototype while their mass produced model wasn’t quite up to snuff. WB isn’t afraid to get you to open your wallet either, so they may have expected a hefty return rate against the Batmobile edition of Arkham.
So what if you were eagerly anticipating placing your Batmobile atop that mantle you cleared out in your entertainment center? Well first I’d ask you to take a look at our Patreon, Mr. Money Bucks, seeing as how this edition costs 200 bones. Second, retailers are offering full refunds. You can also get a partial refund and transfer the rest of the money you put down to either the Limited or Standard editions.
Rocksteady is also putting out free New 52 skins of Batman, Robin and Nightwing as an apology, accessible to anyone purchasing the game. So if you wanted to make sure your Batman didn’t wear his underwear outside his pants, you’re in luck.
Remember, just because they cancelled one edition of the game doesn’t mean you won’t still need a guide to figure out which version of the title to buy where.
