Telltale’s Batman Is Off To A Rocky Start

PC players report technical issues in droves with the new release.

News

UPDATE: Today Telltale acknowledged the PC’s performance issues saying that most problems stemmed from the game favoring onboard graphics instead of any dedicated graphics cards that might be installed. To that end they have released a patch which both fixed the dedicated card issue and adds additional graphics options so that people still experiencing trouble can adjust textures accordingly.

You can read their full statement here.

I was surprised today when I went to check out the new Telltale Batman game and saw within moments of release it had already made its way clear down to the “Mostly Negative” category for Steam reviews.

Telltale’s chapters aren’t famously lengthy, but you would certainly expect the game’s 127 reviewers to spend more than fifteen minutes deciding on a score. Of course upon reading the reviews you can see they’re almost all revolving around technical problems. The most common complaints seem to involve setting the game’s resolution and getting it into full screen mode, FPS drops that go clear down to the teens, and a fairly consistent glitch with the in-game codex that will cause the entire thing to crash back to the main menu.

Reviews are flooding in and as of my writing this the game has 105 in the negative slot with people being about as happy as you would expect them to be.

And even some of the positive reviews are less than thrilled:

The game has received glowing critical reviews so far with not a single outlet that I can find mentioning performance issues. There is the question of what platform those outlets reviewed on though. I’ve been unable to find any current reports on difficulties with the console versions of the game.

I haven’t had a chance to try out my copy of the game yet, but I have reached out to Telltale and will of course update this post if we hear anything back. In the meantime Batman fans may want to tread lightly.
