Assassin’s Creed Unity Confirmed… Finally

Assassin's Creed adds some much needed guillotines.

After a series of leaks and teases, Ubisoft has come forward and confirmed the next Assassin’s Creed set during the French Revolution.

The first whisperings of Unity were leaked via NeoGAF, in which user krimsoncharge shared details of the game he had reportedly been shown by a developer sharing his airplane flight. Details for previous Assassin’s Creed games had supposedly been leaked by developers in flight, and this tale would follow the bizarre tradition.

Examiner’s Nicholas Gigante then picked up an unofficial scoop on the game, while Kotaku got their hands on some early images of the title that seemed to be missing fully functional mechanics and environmental textures, but most definitely looked like an Assassin’s Creed title.

The details from both Kotaku and NeoGAF corroborated that the next AC game would take place sometime in the late 1700s during the French Revolution, and be set between Britian and France. The astute who played Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag likely also stumbled upon an email where Abstergo employees speculated on great animus locations to explore, the French Revolution being one of them.

Now after bizarre tales of in-flight corporate espionage and media journalists sharing pictures from inside informants, Ubisoft has given the first trailer to bring it all together:

Details on the game still remain unconfirmed, though Assassin’s Creed Unity looks to be next gen only. The game will be out this year, coinciding with Ubisoft’s plan of “An Assassin Game A Year”. There’s also a chance of a gen 7 Assassin’s Creed title, which won’t be Unity and has yet to be announced, though we’ll likely hear more as things ramp up for E3.
