Nintendo revealed today that The Legend of Zelda’s untitled Wii U entry won’t be landing in 2015 like the company had originally hoped. File this one under “not surprising, but still disappointing”. When the game was initially shown off at last year’s E3 it was obvious the scope was bigger than anything the series has ever done. Even at that time a 2015 release seemed optimistic at best.
Nintendo has also confirmed via Twitter that the game will not be shown at this upcoming E3 either.
Mr. Aonuma & team will be hard at work on #WiiU #Zelda and have decided not to show it at E3 this year. Thanks for your patience!

It’s hard to be too mad about a delay that will almost absolutely result in a better game, especially in a time where AAA developers are getting routinely skewered for not putting enough time into their releases. Even so I can’t help but hope Nintendo has some surprises up their sleeve for the Wii U in 2015 because right now it feels like they’re basically relying on Splatoon to carry the system through the rest of the year.
