France dominated the game, but weren’t able to find the back of the net well. They only scored one goal at the end of the first half, but it was enough to get them through to the quarterfinal.

Through most of the match, Nigeria dominated the game and looked as if it was going to win. Unfortunately a goal keeping error combined with an injury that saw Moses come out extinguished their fire, and by the time Yobo scored his own goal Nigeria had given up already.
She wouldn’t have allowed this game to go to extra time.

The German power house crushed a determined, but ultimately outclassed Algeria with their brand of attractive, attacking football.

This was a victory that tasted of defeat for the Germans. Unable to score in the regular time, the match went to extra time, and even though they score two goals, they also conceded a silly last minute goal. Algeria fought bravely, and it sometimes looked as if they deserved to go through. While they got a goal on Germany, it is sad to see them go from the tournament. In the end this only good new for France, which gets to play a German team that had to endure a two hour match.
Conclusion
A day with no strange predictions and surprises in the real world means that FIFA got all of their matches right. However, it is important to not that France and Germany did not look as bulletproof as conventional wisdom would have you believe. It will be interesting to see what happens as Germany and France play each other in the quarter finals. It is also sad to see Algeria leave, but I do look forward to see them play next time.
